Extraction of the Latanier, a historic operation!

09.02.2022

Our 12-metre high Blue Latanier tree had become too big and could no longer thrive in our tropical greenhouse. This is why we decided to remove the tree and transport it to Beauval Zoo, in their large equatorial dome. A historic operation for Terra Botanica, which was carried out without any problems by our landscape team. Each step followed the other from Monday 31 January to Wednesday 2 February, which you can discover here in pictures.

Cutting leaves and protecting the tree

On Monday afternoon, the operation starts with the cutting of the most important leaves to facilitate the transport of the tree. Leaves that will grow back after the new planting.

Then the tree was protected, notably with the help of freshly cut bamboo from the morning in our bamboo grove. This is an essential step for the tree's survival.

The uprooting of the Latanier

Tuesday 1 February is the day of the uprooting of our big latanier. The aim is to place it on the greenhouse floor to make manoeuvring easier. Our landscape team has to be meticulous so as not to harm the tree and the various plants in the vicinity.

On the way to Beauval Zoo

The next day, our Latanier was taken out of the greenhouse and transported to the Loir et Cher. This decisive step was complex, to say the least, and was carried out without damaging the tree.

We wish our tree all the best and hope it will flourish in the large equatorial dome of Beauval Zoo. We will be checking on him regularly.
