New products for 2020 at Terra Botanica

29.05.2020

On 4 June 2020, and after its record year in 2019, with 334,000 visitors, the only theme park in Europe dedicated to the world of plants, will celebrate its tenth anniversary. The park in Angers is actively preparing for the new season with new attractions and events that will mark out an exceptional year.

Already 10 years old! In 2020, the Anjou park will celebrate its first decade with the aim of making the site a permanent part of its territory, while giving it meaning. In addition to the numerous events that will mark this anniversary year, and the reinforcement of certain play areas and attractions, the park wishes to make a lasting impression with new, unique or highly original features. Among them "a garden without water", "The Oasis", the largest bamboo structure in Europe...

The waterless garden, a new generation of plant space

The waterless garden (c) Terra Botanica 2 okThis new generation plant area will give visitors the opportunity to discover a garden without the need for watering. The plantations will be self-sufficient in water from the second year onwards thanks to the root system of the plants which will draw water from deep within a plot of land specially designed for this future technique. Mediterranean plants (olive trees, lavender, etc.) and plants from all over the world, specially selected and cultivated for their resistance to drought, will be on display. Beyond this new plant display, it is the preservation of the resource that will be highlighted by the Terra Botanica gardeners.

For Denis Griffon, the park's director, "this new garden is in line with what Terra Botanica has been offering for several years. It is our vocation to show visitors, in a playful and educational way, new ways of gardening, to preserve resources and to make them aware of the importance of plants in our immediate environment. The sometimes burning news of the last few weeks shows us every day that nature is fragile but that it remains more than ever our best ally.

The Oasis, the largest bamboo structure in Europe

Terra Botanica L Oasis - new in 2020 - bamboo structureAnother new feature that should catch the visitor's eye as soon as he or she arrives in the park is "The Oasis": this will be the largest bamboo structure in Europe, measuring 7 metres in height and covering 600 m². It will require 7 tons of bamboo, mainly from the south of France. Made from the weaving of more than 1,300 bamboo canes, this entirely plant-based place will be a space for meetings, games and exchanges. "Once again, Terra Botanica wants to use this bamboo structure, which is unique in Europe, to demonstrate the use of new, more ecological materials. Bamboo is considered as "man's brother" in Japan, while in Europe we still don't know how to use it. It grows everywhere, but we don't know how to make the most of it. This spectacular place should give many ideas to lovers of exotic gardens," explains Denis Griffon.

New shows

Among the other new features, the tropical greenhouse, one of the largest in Europe, will welcome new species of insects, phasms, some of which can measure more than 20 cm, as well as pairs of Goulde's Diamond, which will surprise visitors in this unusual plant ecosystem. The park is also preparing a number of activities for young and old, such as a live show: "The Fable of Chevrefeuille", a new magic show, new playgrounds, etc.
