It's mowing-free month in the park!

03.04.2024

April is no-mow month at Terra Botanica. This new trend, straight from the UK, involves not mowing the grass for a month. In fact, it's in spring that flowers produce the nectar that bees come to collect.

the English NGO Plantlife notes that "100 square metres of unmown lawn would produce enough pollen to feed six mining bee brood cells and enough nectar to meet the needs of six bumblebees a day".

Real environmental issues

But these are not the only living things that benefit from not being mowed. Insects and other small animals are generally happy to live in the tall grass. As for plants, buttercups, poppies, dandelions and other plants flourish without worrying about the blades.

This event responds to environmental issues by preserving the biodiversity of green and natural spaces, by reducing pollution through the limitation of inputs and other fertilizers. It is also conducive to the management of natural resources (saving water and managing green waste ...)
