In May, Terra Botanica institutes the "month without mowing". This new trend, which comes straight from the United Kingdom, consists in not mowing the grass during the month of May. Indeed, it is in May that flowers produce nectar that bees come to collect. The British NGO Plantlife notes that for "100 square meters of unmowed lawn would produce enough pollen to feed six mining bee brood cells and enough nectar to meet the needs of six bumblebees per day".
Real environmental issues
But these are not the only living things that benefit from not being mowed. Insects and other small animals are generally happy to live in the tall grass. As for plants, buttercups, poppies, dandelions and other plants flourish without worrying about the blades.
This event responds to environmental issues by preserving the biodiversity of green and natural spaces, by reducing pollution through the limitation of inputs and other fertilizers. It is also conducive to the management of natural resources (saving water and managing green waste ...)
